Key Connections Returns, Virtually and In Person

For the fifth year in a row, Phi Beta Kappa has partnered with our local associations in cities across the country for Key Connections, an event series designed to welcome recent inductees and members who might have recently relocated. These events offer a chance to network and connect in the spirit of Phi Beta Kappa’s founding with an emphasis on friendship and fellowship.

On September 9, the Society hosted three virtual Career Conversations featuring members in the fields of nonprofits and advocacy, business and engagement, and science and research at leading organizations such as the BBC, Blue Planet Foundation, DonorsChoose, General Motors, Harlem Children’s Zone, the James Beard Foundation, Logiq, Los Angeles Football Club, Procter & Gamble, and the United Farm Workers Foundation. Discussions focused on how Phi Beta Kappa members could make the most of their liberal arts education as they move forward in their career paths.

The national Key Connections program served as the kick-off for more than 20 local events hosted by Phi Beta Kappa associations to help introduce their associations to recent members and provide space—whether virtual or in person—for conversation and networking. The Austin and Richmond associations planned outings to their local art museums; the Nashville association gathered virtually to learn more about Nashville hot chicken and tour the National Museum of African American Music; the Detroit and New York associations offered virtual gatherings as well as meet-ups outdoors; and the Boston association created a panel focusing on members’ experiences in pursuing advanced degrees.

Any Phi Beta Kappa member can take advantage of the in-person and virtual events scheduled for this fall and winter. Many associations continue to host virtual programs and are offering book clubs, movie screenings, happy hours, and more. Be sure to check our Key Connections page at pbk.org/keyconnections, and calendar of events at pbk.org/All-Events to find new ways to stay connected with Phi Beta Kappa. We hope to see you soon!
